Aeroplan and Chexy have launched an exciting new partnership that allows Canadians to earn bonus Aeroplan points on essential payments like rent and property taxes. This is in addition to the points you already earn from your credit card—meaning more rewards on spending that typically earns nothing.
For a limited time, new Chexy users can earn up to 10,000 bonus Aeroplan points, while existing users can earn up to 4,000 points. If you're looking for a creative way to maximize rewards from bills that don’t normally accept credit cards, this promotion is worth a look.
What is Chexy?
Chexy is a Canadian fintech platform that allows users to pay rent, property tax, and other bills using a credit card—even when the vendor doesn’t accept them directly. You pay Chexy, they pay your bill on your behalf, and you collect points or cashback rewards from your credit card. It's a smart way to turn routine expenses into travel rewards.
Two Launch Offers: One for New Users, One for Existing Users
Chexy has structured the Aeroplan promo into two separate offers:
For New Chexy Users (April 15 – July 15, 2025):
Earn bonus Aeroplan points by hitting these milestones:
2,000 points on your first payment.
5,000 points after completing $5,000 in payments within six months.
500 points for each additional recurring bill added (up to 2,000 points total).
1,000 points after 12 consecutive months of payments.
Total potential: Up to 10,000 Aeroplan points.
For Existing Chexy Users (as of April 14, 2025):
Earn 2,000 Aeroplan points after completing 12 consecutive monthly payments (with at least one payment of $50+ per month).
Earn 500 Aeroplan Points for any additional recurring payments you add to your Chexy Account of a minimum payment of $50, up to a maximum of 2,000 Aeroplan Points (4 additional recurring payments). To qualify, these recurring payments must be activated, and one month of payments must be completed, all during the Offer Period. Any recurring payments activated before April 15, 2025 are not eligible for this offer.Â
In both cases, you must link your Aeroplan account first to receive points.
Refer and Earn: Chexy Referral Program
Chexy also offers bonus rewards through its referral program:
1,000 Aeroplan points per successful referral (up to 10 referrals).
$15 Chexy credit per referral.
Lower credit card processing fees—potentially as low as 0.5%—as you refer more users.
How Chexy Works
You can use Chexy to pay household bills with a credit card, including:
Rent
Property tax
Tuition
Condo fees
Utilities
Payments are processed by Chexy, which forwards them to your landlord or service provider via bank transfer or mailed cheque. You are charged a fee by Chexy which is added to the credit card charge.
Our Experience with Chexy
I’ve been testing out Chexy and have mixed impressions.
Verification process: You must go through a Plaid ID verification, which was a hassle. My wife’s account went into manual review, and we haven’t heard back—frustrating.
User interface: The platform is still rough around the edges. It’s not always intuitive where to go to link your Aeroplan account or verify your identity—you may have to initiate a bill payment to see those options.
Payment forms: The bill setup form requests unnecessary details at times, and you can only have one active credit card linked at a time.
Overall usability: It’s not the smoothest experience, but it works if you're patient. To be fair, it's still a newer startup, so some of these issues might improve over time.
Is Chexy Worth Using?
Despite the clunky experience, Chexy’s 1.75% processing fee for Canadian credit card payments is industry-leading. Other platforms charge closer to 2.5–3%, so this is a solid deal—especially if you're using a points-earning card like the American Express Aeroplan Reserve or TD / CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege.
Chexy payments are coded as recurring payments, so using a card like the Scotia Momentum Visa will earn 4% cash back. This would result in a net earning of 2.25% after the Chexy fee.
If you regularly pay large expenses like rent, property tax, or tuition, Chexy can help you unlock thousands of Aeroplan points or cashback dollars each year.
That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 1.75% fee increases over time as the company grows—so now’s a good time to take advantage of it.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking to maximize your Aeroplan earnings, this new partnership is a solid opportunity—especially for those with large recurring bills that normally don’t accept credit cards.
Use Chexy to pay rent, taxes, or tuition and earn both Aeroplan points and credit card rewards. Stack that with Chexy’s referral bonuses and new user offers to supercharge your points.
Just be prepared for a few bumps along the way as the platform matures. With a bit of effort, the rewards can be worth it.
