Hotel Review: Villa Copenhagen in Denmark

During a recent trip to Copenhagen, we decided to stay at Villa Copenhagen, stepping away from my usual loyalty to Marriott, Hilton, or Hyatt properties. The reason? A stockpile of Choice Privileges Hotel points waiting to be used. I don’t normally collect Choice points, but a previous plan to visit Ireland had led me to purchase them. Although those plans fell through, Villa Copenhagen—part of the Choice Group’s Ascend Collection—offered a brilliant opportunity to redeem those Choice Privileges points at 40,000 per night. It turned out to be an excellent choice for our short visit to Denmark’s capital.

Villa Copenhagen Location: Where History Meets Convenience
Housed in a magnificent building that once served as Copenhagen’s central post and telegraph office, Villa Copenhagen oozes historic charm. Its location couldn’t be more convenient, placing us right in the heart of the city and within walking distance of several iconic landmarks.

From Tivoli Gardens and the picturesque Nyhavn waterfront to the bustling Strøget shopping street, everything was just a short walk away. For those who prefer to immerse themselves in a city’s culture without spending time in transit, Villa Copenhagen’s location is a decent choice.
Stepping into the lobby of Villa Copenhagen felt like entering a different era. The grand high ceilings and intricate details, seamlessly combined with modern touches, created a space that was both majestic and welcoming. It’s the kind of lobby that invites you to pause and take it all in.

Check-in was a breeze. The friendly and professional staff quickly set us up with keycards and provided a brief overview of the hotel’s amenities, setting the tone for a relaxing stay.

The Room: Small in Size, Big on Style
We booked a 1 King Bed, Deluxe Room at 40,000 Choice points per night—a value compared to the $500+ CAD cash rate. While compact, the room’s thoughtful Scandinavian design turned it into a cozy retreat.

This was also my first encounter with Scandinavian bedding: separate duvets for each person. It might sound like a small detail, but it was a game-changer for a restful night’s sleep—no more midnight tug-of-war over the covers!

Dining: Breakfast Worth Waking Up For
Breakfast at Villa Copenhagen was an experience in itself. It was a feast for the eyes. The buffet offered an expansive selection: freshly baked pastries, artisan bread, eggs, meats, cheeses, and an array of fresh fruits. For those craving something lighter, there were yogurts, granolas, and smoothies.
But the star of the show? The Danish pastries. Flaky, buttery, and irresistibly delicious, they alone were worth the visit.

Amenities: Rooftop Relaxation
One of Villa Copenhagen’s highlights is its heated rooftop pool, a perfect spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing. Unfortunately, with our short stay, we didn’t have the chance to take a dip.

Exploring Copenhagen: Steps from Adventure
Villa Copenhagen’s prime location made it the ideal base for exploring the city. We wandered through Tivoli Gardens, admired the colorful buildings lining Nyhavn, and lost ourselves in the charming streets filled with Danish architecture and design. A boat ride through Copenhagen’s canals provided a unique perspective and a peaceful escape from the bustling streets.

Public transport was easily accessible, with a station right across the street, but we found that most attractions were within walking distance. For those inclined to pedal, Copenhagen’s extensive network of bike lanes makes cycling a joy, and Villa Copenhagen’s bike rental service offers guests the chance to explore like a local.

Redemption Value: Points Well Spen
At 40,000 Choice points per night, Villa Copenhagen offered tremendous value. The combination of its central location, unique design, and top-tier amenities made it a standout option within the Choice network which are typically lower-end hotles.
Had we paid cash, the rate would have exceeded $500 CAD per night, underscoring the excellent value of this redemption. For anyone holding Choice points and seeking a refined yet unique experience, this property should be at the top of your list.

Final Thoughts: Would I Return?
Villa Copenhagen is a gem. Its seamless blend of historical charm, modern comfort, and eco-conscious values makes it a memorable destination for travelers. While the room size might not appeal to those seeking extra space, the impeccable design and exceptional breakfast more than made up for it.
Would I stay again? Without a doubt—especially if I had more Choice points to use. For travelers who prioritize location, and style, Villa Copenhagen captures the spirit of Denmark in a way few properties can. If you’re planning a trip to Copenhagen and want a distinctive stay that puts the city’s best at your doorstep, Villa Copenhagen is well worth considering.
